Magical Me:
Medical Science

Healthy Me

Healthy Me is a 7‑week Transitional Kindergarten STEAM unit that introduces community helpers, hygiene, and basic body systems through art-rich, hands-on activities. Students explore careers like doctors and firefighters, practice proper handwashing and dental care, investigate germs and simple scientific phenomena, and create projects such as scratch-art teeth and “blood slime” to build health awareness, fine motor skills, and early science inquiry aligned with California standards.

Food as Fuel

Food as Fuel is a 7‑week first grade STEAM unit that teaches nutrition and food groups through data collection, art, and hands-on modeling. Students sort foods into the five groups, survey and graph favorite vegetables, explore “rainbow eating,” build 3D meal models, and play food-themed games while practicing communication, math, and healthy eating habits.

Hearts & Lungs, The Dynamic Duo

Hearts & Lungs: The Dynamic Duo is a 7‑week third grade STEAM unit that explores the cardiovascular and respiratory systems through models, movement, and art. Students investigate how lungs bring oxygen into the body, how blood circulates, and how trees support human oxygen needs by building lung and blood models, tracking heart rate during exercise, and examining how body systems work together.

Gut Instincts: Digestion, Absorption and Emotions

Gut Instincts: Digestion, Absorption, & Emotions is a 7‑week fifth grade STEAM unit that dives into the digestive system through full-body models, measurement, and food experiments. Students sequence each step of digestion, build and label life-size organ maps, test how acids break down food, and explore the connection between gut health and emotions while applying the scientific method and key math skills.

Germ Busters

Germ Busters is a 7‑week kindergarten STEAM unit that explores germs, immunity, and hygiene through playful, hands-on science and art projects. Students investigate how soap removes germs, model how diseases spread, create “fake snot” and germ art, and make their own hand sanitizer while learning about medical careers, body defenses, and cause-and-effect in health and chemistry.

Bone Buddies & Muscle Mates

Bone Buddies & Muscle Mates is a 7‑week second grade STEAM unit that explores the skeletal and muscular systems through anatomy, art, and engineering challenges. Students learn major bones and muscle types, investigate tendons and ligaments, create X-ray‑style artwork, and build a functioning robotic hand model while practicing scientific observation, collaboration, and clear communication.

Command Central, Journey through the Brain and Nerves

Command Central: Journey Through the Brain & Nerves is a 7‑week fourth grade STEAM unit that investigates the nervous system and neuroplasticity through research, art, and hands-on circuitry. Students learn major brain structures and neuron function, explore how the brain changes and adapts, create neurographic artwork and light‑up playdough brain circuits, and run simple nerve sensitivity tests using the scientific method.

Dot Detectives: Microbial Mysteries & Medical Marvels

Dot Detectives: Microbial Mysteries & Medical Marvels is a 7‑week sixth grade STEAM unit that blends cell biology, contemporary art, and college-and-career exploration. Students study cells through diagrams and Yayoi Kusama–inspired artwork, conduct independent research on medical careers using credible sources and citations, visit a local college health program, and deliver professional presentations that highlight their future goals.
